4-7 mm Calcium Carbide CaC2 – The Workhorse Granule for Steady Acetylene Feed
Let’s back up a second. Calcium carbide cac2 is a simple thing: limestone and coke, cooked in an electric furnace at over 2000°C. What comes out is a dark grey solid that smells like the inside of a garage – that’s trace acetylene. Drop it in water, and it releases pure acetylene gas. That gas welds pipes, cuts scrap metal, and helps make plastics.
But here’s what most product pages won’t tell you: the size of your calcium carbide cac2 changes everything. Too fine, and your generator chokes on dust. Too coarse, and you wait too long for gas. The sweet spot for many continuous industrial processes? 4-7 mm.
We produce this grade in Inner Mongolia. Annual output: 70000 tons across all sizes. Our 4-7 mm calcium carbide cac2 delivers 285 L/KG gas yield – consistent, batch after batch. Not the highest number in our catalog, but reliable. And reliability beats peaks when you’re running a 24/5 plant.

Why 4-7 mm Works Better Than You Think
Smaller than pea gravel, bigger than sand. That’s 4-7 mm. It flows through feed screws without jamming. It reacts fast – usually within 30 to 90 seconds – but not so fast that your generator overheats. That’s why acetylene stations, chemical batch reactors, and even some steel desulfurization lances prefer this range.
We also produce every other size: 1-4 mm, 7-15 mm, 15-25 mm, 25-50 mm, 50-80 mm, and 80-120 mm. All from the same calcium carbide cac2 base material. So when you need to mix sizes in one container, we’re already set up for it.
One Container – Multiple Sizes, Multiple Drum Colors
Most suppliers say no to mixing. Too complicated. We say yes – and we do it every week.
Imagine this: you order 8 tons of 4-7 mm, 6 tons of 15-25 mm, and 4 tons of 50-80 mm. We pack each size into different colored drums. For example:
Why colors? Because your forklift driver doesn’t need to read small text from 10 meters away. He sees blue – he knows it’s the 4-7 mm batch for Generator A. No mistakes. No mixing up inventory.
We have 11 standard RAL colors. Or send us a sample and we’ll match it. No upcharge.

Your Markings (唛头) – Exactly as You Want
Every drum is a blank slate. We print yours with:
-
Your company logo
-
Product name: “Calcium Carbide CaC2 – 4-7 mm – 285 L/KG”
-
Net weight (50 kg or 100 kg – we offer both drum sizes)
-
Batch number (traceable to our furnace run)
-
“DANGER: Reacts with water. Flammable acetylene gas.”
-
UN1402 / Class 4.3 hazard diamond
-
Consignee details or destination port
We’ve printed markings in Thai, Arabic, Spanish, French, Vietnamese, and Indonesian. Send a PDF or AI file. We’ll send you a proof, then paint it directly on the drums – no cheap stickers that fall off in humid weather.
Mixed Drum Weights? Yes – 50 kg and 100 kg in the Same Container
Your main plant uses 100 kg drums because they have a forklift. Your smaller line – or a customer site – needs 50 kg drums because they handle drums by hand. No problem. We load both into one 20' container.
Example: 10 tons of 4-7 mm in 100 kg drums (100 drums) + 5 tons of 7-15 mm in 50 kg drums (100 drums). Same container, same bill of lading. You save freight costs and clearance fees.

How We Load a Container
A standard 20' container takes 22.5 tons of calcium carbide cac2 in drums. We stack and brace them so nothing shifts during ocean transit. Each pallet is labeled with a colored band that matches the drum color. You’ll get a detailed packing list showing exactly how many drums of each size and color are inside.
Storage – Keep It Dry, Keep It Cool
Calcium carbide cac2 is not a set-it-and-forget-it material. Water is its enemy. Even humidity can slowly degrade it, forming acetylene gas inside a sealed drum – which is dangerous.
Here’s our simple storage guide:
-
Store off concrete floors. Concrete wicks moisture. Use wooden pallets or steel racks.
-
Keep below 40°C and humidity under 50%.
-
Never stack drums directly under water pipes or sprinklers.
-
Seal drums immediately after taking product. Don’t leave a drum open “just for a few minutes.”
If stored correctly – dry warehouse, stable temperature – our calcium carbide cac2 stays effective for up to 2 years. In humid coastal areas, we recommend using within 12 to 18 months.

Where Our Customers Use 4-7 mm Grade
We ship to over 45 countries – Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Nigeria, Egypt, Brazil, Poland, Turkey, and many more. Common uses for 4-7 mm calcium carbide cac2:
-
Continuous acetylene generators – the size feeds perfectly through star feeders and screw conveyors.
-
Chemical synthesis – producing vinyl chloride, acetaldehyde, or calcium cyanamide.
-
Steel desulfurization – some lances work better with smaller granules for faster injection.
-
Metal cutting and welding – smaller portable acetylene units prefer this granulation.
Safety – Read This Before You Open a Drum
I’ll say it straight: calcium carbide cac2 plus water equals acetylene gas. Acetylene explodes if it builds up pressure and meets a spark. Never open a drum with wet hands or tools. Never store drums near drains or flooded areas. If a drum gets wet by accident, do not move it – evacuate and call your fire department.
We put multilingual warning labels on every drum. But you must train your warehouse staff. One mistake can cost more than a shipment.
